Orientation

Are you about to finish your school education and looking for the degree programme that’s right for you?

If you’re coming from high school and about to start your first university experience, you can enrol in our three-year bachelor’s degree programme in Studies in Literature and Philosophy, which includes three tracks: Classics, Italian Studies, and Philosophy (discover the curricula); or in Languages for Intercultural and Business Communication (at our Arezzo site), which has two tracts: Languages for Intercultural Communication and Languages for Business (discover the curricula).

  • We organize various gatherings for prospective students. In February, on the University open days, held both in Siena and Arezzo, we present our educational tracks, open up our buildings, libraries, and laboratories, hold open classes, and speak with you, answering your questions. Each spring, in May, we host an orientation meeting, where it is possible to meet the faculty and student representatives in a more informal atmosphere, in Siena’s Humanities Library garden and on the Pionta Campus in Arezzo. From May to September our faculty members are available for individual meetings. In September, in conjunction with matriculations, student representatives offer an intensive series of receptions, with virtual meetings with them also possible. Finally, in autumn, there is a traditional keynote address from one of our faculty members, followed by a visit to the university facilities and by short workshops for its various schools.

  • Another way to get to know us is by participating in the Themed Seminars that we hold in schools across the provinces of Siena, Arezzo, and Grossetto, as well as across Italy: in this instance, it is the schools that must choose what most interests them from a list of available seminars. A list of Themed Seminars is available for Literature and Languages.

  • There is one more way to familiarize yourself with the university setting, and that is by doing an internship programme with us during your fourth and fifth years of high school. In this instance, too, your school must get in touch with us. To learn more, go to this link: alternating school and work experience: pathways to university.

FAQ

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS AND TESTS

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of English at least to level A2/2 (CEFR) is required. In addition to general school education equivalent to what is guaranteed by current secondary school institutions, elementary knowledge of Latin is needed.

ITALIAN AND ENGLISH ENTRANCE TESTS

To verify these requirements, there will be entrance TESTS for ITALIAN and ENGLISH.

Graduates of foreign secondary schools will be admitted after verification of the equivalence of their qualifications and knowledge of Italian.

The results of the entrance tests are not binding for enrolment.

The entrance tests are intended to evaluate the student’s aptitude and degree of preparation in certain disciplines considered particularly relevant for successfully tackling the degree programme that they intend to choose; and thus to allow them to fill any gaps that might be revealed by the test in time to be able to successfully attend classes.

These tests are required, but a negative outcome does not preclude registration. In this event, the student will have “additional educational requirements” to fulfil through targeted remedial classes.

PRELIMINARY CHECK OF KNOWLEDGE OF LATIN

An entrance test is not required for LATIN, but you must pass a “preliminary verification of language skills”, in preparation for the initial exam in “Latin Language and Literature” and the exam in “History of the Latin Language” (scientific-disciplinary sector L-FIL-LET/04).

All students, in whichever degree programme (including master’s programmes), including those registered for individual modules, who are taking an exam in Latin Language and Literature or History of the Latin Language for the first time, must prove they have adequate knowledge of Latin with a simple translation test. They will only be allowed to take the exam after passing this test.

Those who did not have the opportunity to study Latin during their studies, see REMEDIAL CLASSES, ORIENTATION, TUTORING, for information about all the services made available by the DFCLAM so that students can acquire the training needed to pass the tests.
